A PROJECT WEEK AS A MEANS OF IMPROVING FOREIGN LANGUAGE AND
TOURISM-RELATED SKILLS OF SECONDARY-SCHOOL STUDENTS IN FORM OF
CREATING A REPORT AND A VIDEO

Abstract: The conference article revolves around the benefits of the project week for
both students and teachers as a counterpart to a classic, formal acquisition of knowledge, thus
stimulating the personal choice of students to choose a topic within a project week by their
utmost interest. In my case that has been the English and German project week group that
provides students with theoretical and practical knowledge on how to improve their foreign
language skills as well as their reporting, recording and tourism-related knowledge upon
creating an English report on tourist sights of a particular area and a video documenting all
that.
The concept of a project week was developed within the innovation project Different
ways of organizing and implementing project weeks (Inovacijskiprojekti 2010/2011, p. 260)
with the main goal to establish different, more creative and efficient learning environments. The
project week is still in use, since it has delivered many benefits for students, teachers and
parents, especially with its positive impact that can be seen in improved and empowered
teamwork and with less organizational obstacles. Moreover, through their attendance in the
projectweek, students gain the key competences of language skills, intercultural abilities,
aesthetic skills, information literacy as well as social skills.
