There are many longer word suffixes where the last letter is –y in words with these suffixes the stress is placed on the second syllable from the end.

Most of academic subjects have one of the –y endings or –ics, e.g. physics, chemistry, biology.
Many English speakers
do not pronounce the second syllable in history [‘histri],
the word geography can be pronounced both [‘dƷogrǝfi] Ooo and [dƷi:’ogrǝfi]] oOoo
don’t pronounce the second syllable in mathematics, [mǝθ’mætics].
