Abstract: The article is devoted to the study of educational opportunities of social networks on the Internet. The effectiveness of using social networks in learning English is analyzed. In the work, an exploratory study to investigate the use of social networks for English language learning is also applied. A survey in collecting the data is employed and analyzed by the authors of this article. The findings indicated that a range of social networks especially Whatsapp and YouTube are used by the students and teachers. Essentially, the students spend most of their time in using social networks for general purposes whereas for the purpose of learning English. advanced digital technologies. Modern technologies have become an integral part of us. Rapid
development was observed especially in the next ten years, which proved that there are huge
manufacturers like Google, Apple, Facebook and Netflix, which are constantly improving their
smartphones and devices and making them available to the public. Currently, from a newborn
child to an elderly person uses these devices frequently.
The Internet has become our parallel living environment. The internet offers a multitude
of information and services. People can travel the whole world sitting in one place, the Internet
offers unlimited possibilities to mankind.
Indeed, digital technologies are essential tools that make life easier and save time.
Recently, it can be said that there is no industry that does not use digital technologies. And it is
being implemented in our country within the framework of the «Digital Kazakhstan» program
adopted by the government for 2018-2022.
It is not surprising that the aim is to implement a large-scale program in a short period of
time because it is well known that no other industry can keep up with the speed of information
development[1].
Digital technologies are more commonly used in language learning and teaching in the
last decade. Digital technologies refer to the computer-based technologies and internet-based
technologies, which is used for creating, storing, displaying and sharing information. In the same
way, social networking and smartphone features have their own advantages and disadvantages
(Table 1) [2].
