As  a  result  of  the  above,  the  following  conclusion  can  be  drawn.  The 

development  of  the  Internet  and  its  rapid  spread  in  modern  society  does  not  go 

unnoticed  for  the  English  language,  which  is  currently  the  most  common  language  on 

the  web.  As  a  global  phenomenon,  the  Internet  is  becoming  a  subject  of  mass 

communication,  which  gives  rise  to  the  need  for  the  formation  of  a  new  lexicon,  the 

basis  of  which  is  formed  by  numerous  abbreviations  and  abbreviations.  There  are 

various  ways  to  communicate  on  the  Internet.  The  main  ones  are  email,  forum,  chat, 

blog,  social  network.  There  are  many  reasons  for  the  formation  of  a  new  style  in  the 

language - the style of Internet communication, but the main reason is the economy of 

efforts of the sender and the recipient. 

There are several classifications of English abbreviations and abbreviations used 

in  virtual  communication.  One  of  them  is  the  classification  of  E.M.  Dubenets,  which 

divides  all  abbreviations  into  two  main  groups:  lexical  and  graphic,  and  also 

distinguishes between them a special group of initials. 

To  communicate  on  the  Internet,  especially  on-line,  each  Internet  user  needs  to 

know  the  methods  and  specifics  of  the  formation  of  English  abbreviations.  This  will 

save you time and the time of your interlocutor. 

This work makes a certain contribution to the development of lexicology in terms 

of the study of lexical units that are constantly emerging as a result of the development 

of the network. In further work on this topic, we will dwell in more detail on our own 

classification of English abbreviations used in virtual communication.
