2.1. Methods of education and classification of abbreviations
There are different classifications of abbreviations. EM Dubenets distinguishes
two main types of abbreviations: graphic abbreviations and lexical ones.
Graphic abbreviations are the result of abbreviating words and phrases only in
written speech, while in oral speech, the corresponding full forms are used.
GRAPHIC ABBREVIATIONS
Lexical abbreviations are full-fledged communication units that meet all
communication requirements, i.e. they are realized both in oral and written speech and
have an independent meaning, for example, in English. lang. - WASPs ← White Anglo-
Saxon Protestants, an MP ← a Member of Parliament. Lexical abbreviation should be
considered as a way of word formation, as a result of which various abbreviated
lexemes arise, while graphical - as a phenomenon associated with abbreviated speech
recordings, in which the recordings themselves are graphic abbreviations. [4; 25]
In addition, acronyms are widely used on the Internet, which stand between
graphic and lexical abbreviations. Initial abbreviations are words formed from the
names of the initial letters or from the initial sounds of the words included in the
original phrase. [5; 6]
