-Hold students responsible for the material: Teachers should insist that students have more than a superficial acquaintance with the material covered by the assignment.
-Teach for respect: Teachers should teach for respect, cooperation, and effort toward learning rather than personal popularity.
-Do not teach all you know: Teachers should keep in mind that presenting too much new material at the same time may result in less learning because students may become confused and discouraged.
- Do not strive for mastery in a single day: Teachers need to learn to space their planned activities in a learnable sequence of ever increasing difficulty over a span of several days. A “suntan” approach is much less painful, and the results are much more desirable than those of a “sunburn” approach.
-Recognized individual differences: Teachers should not insist upon one approach for all students. Their responsibility is to structure learning tasks in such a way as to maximize the learning efficiency of each.
-Use audio-visual aids whenever possible:Visual aids convey meaning, promote understanding, stimulate interest, and provide variety.
-Maintain high standards: To demand performance beyond students’ capabilities is unrealistic and unjust, but teachers should expect students to produce to the limit of their potential. A definite, positive correlation seems to exist between teachers’ expectations and students’ achievement, regardless of the method.
