LABORATORY WORK # 5. A plp for the intermediate stage
AIM: to teach students to make up a per lesson plan.
Secondary guidelines
The preceding are major guidelines that should be given careful consideration by each teacher. The following guides are less important but certainly worthy of inclusion in this chapter for the help they may provide.
1-Have something to give students: Teachers should ask themselves every day as they enter the classroom whether the content of the lesson merits the students' time, interest, and effort.
2-Assume your responsibilities: Teachers bear the responsibility of choosing objectives, planning activities, teaching the class, evaluating the results, and helping students become successful learners.
3-Give students a feeling of confidence and success: One of the teacher’s principal goals is to sequence classroom activities in such a way that students feel confident of their ability to participate successfully in class and that they feel good about doing so.
4-Insist that students share the load: Teaching begins with the teacher. Learning begins with the students. The teacher must not abdicate his responsibility for teaching, but he should not assume the responsibility for learning.
5-Arrange activities in a learnable sequence: The art of teaching lies in teaching in such a way what students know the right answers, not in telling them that they are wrong.
6-Encourage students: Although teachers have a perfect right to let students know when they are displeased, they are also obliged to compliment them when they deserve praise. Positive reinforcement has numerous rewards for teachers as well as students.
7-Call on students: One technique that teacher can employ to maintain the momentum of the class is to plan ahead while one student is reciting to select the student they will call on next.
8-Do not do in class what students can do for themselves out of class: Teachers should conduct classes in such a way that assigned out-of-class preparation is necessary for successful participation in the class.
