| My summer holidays
Summer is wonderful. There is no school and the holidays are long. I usually spend my summer holidays in the country at my grandmother’s. I like the place. I have a wonderful time in the country. But last summer I was the happiest of all because I spend my holidays at the seaside with my mother and father. We went there in August. The weather was always nice. We swam and bathed a lot in the beautiful sea. I made new friends and we played games on the yellow sand. It was fun. When my grandmother and grandfather saw us, they were glad that we looked strong and healthy. (98 words) Reading in our life I’m fond of reading. Reading is very useful, because books enrich our experience with that of the other people. Besides, books help me to continue my own education. I’m sure that a reader lives a richer life than a non-reader. The time spent on a good book is never wasted. I enjoy books of different genres; love and detective stories, tales and historical novels, works after classical and modern writers. I am a great lover of the English and American literature. Luckily there is a big choice of various books in book shops. I can’t imagine my life without reading. (87 words) Music in our life If we ask several people what kind of music they like, all of them will give different answers. Tastes differ. And all the people will agree that our world will be dull without music. That’s why we can say that all kinds of music are popular with public; classical and pop music, folk music and jazz, operas, rock and roll, hard rock and so on. As for me, I enjoy both classical music and variety show. Some people say, it is difficult to understand classical music. For variety is variety, I like to listen to different songs, to watch different singers, to hear something new. (96 words) Halloween I’d like to tell you about Halloween. It is an old festival. Halloween is celebrated on the thirty-first of October. It is a special night, an exciting and funny holiday. There are pumpkins on the windows. They look like faces. Children dress up as witches and ghosts. They have parties and play tricks on people. Children go from house to house and say «Trick or treat! » The grown-ups give them some fruit, sweets, chocolate or money. When there is no treat, the children play a trick on them. A favourite trick is to ring a doorbell and hide. It’s really an exciting holiday. (85 words) Winter Winter is a nice season. December, January and February are winter months. But in some places winter begins in November and ends in March or April. The nights in winter are very long, and it is dark when we get up in the morning. The days are short. The ground, the fields and the trees are white with snow. Sometimes it is very cold, and people put on their warm clothes when they go out. Boys and girls like to skate and ski. You can see a lot of children running and jumping in the snow or playing snowballs. Little children like to make snowmen. (92 words) Spring Spring is a beautiful season. It begins in March and ends in May. The weather is usually fine in spring. Sometimes it rains, but it is warm. Forests, fields and trees in parks, gardens and streets are green. There you can see white, red, blue and yellow flowers. In spring farmers begin their work in the fields. There are a lot of tractors and other machines there. After long winter months children like spring time. They play out in the yards and on the playgrounds. (76 words) Summer Summer is a fine season. The days in summer are long, the nights are short. The weather is fine. Sometimes it rains, sometimes it is hot. Summer brings holidays to schoolchildren; they do not go to school. In summer some schoolchildren will go to camps, others will stay in town or in villages. Those who go to summer camps will have a good time. They will live near a forest or a river. They will go for walks in the forest, fish and swim in the river, play games, sit at the camp-fire in the evening and sing songs. Those who stay in town will help their parents, look after small children, read books, play games, go for walks in parks, and go to the cinema and theatre.
