A Remarkable Old Man
Mr.  Gregory  Gale  is  one of the  few people  in England who  are  100 
years old,  but this is not the only thing that makes him remarkable.  On the 
day of his birthday, he played a game o f tennis and went for a long walk. A 
few days  later a radio  reporter came to his house and asked him  if he had 
any  ‘secrets  of long  life’.  This  is  what  Mr.  Gale  said.  “No,  I  don’t  know 
any secrets  like that,  but there are  a few simple rules  of good  life.  I’ve al­
ways kept them all my life. The first is: Don’t listen to those fools who tell 
you have to give up all the pleasures of life! That’s absolute nonsense!
The second is to enjoy all the pleasures o f life in moderation. For in­
stance, I’ve always  smoked  a few good cigars  every day. Not many,  mind 
you!  Only two or three!  I’ve also always drunk a little good wine with my 
meals, perhaps two or three glasses.
The third rule is to take a little exercise every day.  I’ve always taken

a  little  every  day  and  on  Saturdays  we’ve  always  played  a  little tennis  or 
golf.
There is really only one thing in which I haven’t been very moderate.

OUR HIGHER SCHOOL
I am a first year student of the Seversk State Technological Institute. 
It  was  founded  in  1959,  so  it's  quite  young.  First  students  had to  study  in 
different  buildings  of our  town  as  there  was no  building  for the  Institute. 
They even went to Tomsk. But now our Institute is a modem four-storeyed 
building with many classrooms in it.  There are many well-equipped labora­
tories  on  most  of the  chairs.  The  chairs  of chemistry  and  technology  of 
modem  energetics  materials,  physics,  electrical  drive  and  automatics,  ma­
chines  and  apparatus  o f chemical  production  and  others  have  laboratories 
with  modem  equipment.  And  this  equipment  is  being  constantly  modern­
ized.  It goes without saying,  up-to-date equipment improves the conditions 
of learning and research.
The  pride  of  our  Institute  is  the  computing  centre.  Students  start 
working on computers from the first days o f their studies.

On  the  ground  floor there  is  a  modem  library  with  a  good  reading 
room.  We borrow the books we need there.  On the 2d floor we can see an 
assembly hall and a gymnasium hall.
Our  Institute  has  three  departments:  a  full-time  department,  a  part­
time  one  and  the  department  of distant  education.  At the  full-time  depart­
ment students study every day and at the part-time one they go to the Insti­
tute  four  times  a  week.  But  the  subjects  they  study  are  almost  the  same. 
They  study  mathematics,  physics,  drawing  geometry,  history,  a  foreign 
language  and  many  other  subjects.  To  study  is  difficult  but  interesting. 
Usually I enjoy my studies.
Highly  qualified teachers  deliver  lectures  and  conduct tutorials.  But 
they not only teach students but serious and significant researches are con­
ducted  by  them.  And  students  also  take  part  in  the  research  work.  Today 
researches are constantly  growing  and the Institute  is  steadily widening its 
contacts with many institutes and organizations of other towns and abroad. 
Students,  who passed the  examinations  successfully,  get scholarship.  Now 
students  take  an  active  part  in  the  Institute  life.  They  are  members  of the 
Council along with professors and professors assistants.
The  graduates  of our  Institute  are,  as  a rule,  good  specialists.  Each 
year  some  students'  diploma works  are  sent to the contest of the Ministry. 
And they are always awarded the first prizes.
I 
like  my  Institute,  my  groupmates.  Many  of  them  are  my  good 
friends.  But there are some students who don’t work properly. And I guess, 
the  Institute  must  not  have  such  students  and  should  say  “good-bye”  to 
them.  I  began  my  studies  well.  I  hope  to  graduate  from  the  Institute  in  5 
years.

Материально-техническая база
Институт  имеет  два  прекрасно  оборудованных  учебно­
лабораторных корпуса общей площадью  11640 кв.м.  Современные ла­
бораторные  установки  на  кафедрах  физики,  химии  позволяют  не 
только  проводить  учебные  и  практические  занятия,  но  и  выполнять 
научные  исследования.  Лаборатория  технических  средств  обучения 
обеспечивает  проведение  учебных  занятий  с  применением  современ­
ного аудио-, видео- и другого мультимедийного оборудования.
Второй диплом -  реальность
Процесс  образования  новых  управленческих  структур  сопрово­
ждается  притоком  новых  кадров,  не  имеющих  специального  образо­
вания.  В  связи  с  этой  тенденцией  факультет  технологий  управления 
ориентирован на подготовку  профессионалов,  желающих освоить  ме­
неджмент  в  организациях  и  предприятиях  различных форм  собствен­
ности.
Сочетая  учебу  по  дневной  и  вечерней  формам,  студенты  стар­
ших  курсов  после  двух  с  половиной  лет  обучения  могут  получить 
второй  диплом  о  высшем  образовании  по  специальностям  менедж­
мент и национальная экономика.
Информационно-вычислительный центр
Обеспечивает  проведение учебного  процесса в  10 залах,  обору­
дованных современными компьютерами класса Pentium и выше.
В  составе ИВЦ функционируют локальные вычислительные  се­
ти (ЛВС): образовательная,  административно-управленческая, бухгал­
терская.  Лаборатория  новых  информационных  технологий  регулярно 
обновляет  программное  обеспечение,  проводит  семинары  с  профес­
сорско-преподавательским  составом  и  студентами  по  его  примене­
нию.
ЛВС СГТИ имеет выход в сеть INTERNET.
Институт располагает своим WEB-сайтом.
Общественная жизнь студентов
Известно,  что  студенчество  -   лучшее  время  в  жизни.  Это  пора, 
когда  есть  силы  и  желание  сделать  многое.  Поэтому  в  институте  по­
стоянно  проводятся  различные  студенческие  мероприятия:  посвяще­
ния  в  студенты,  конкурсы  “Мисс  СГТИ”,  викторины;  масштабно  от­
мечаются  профессиональные праздники -  день химика и день энерге­
тика,  а также  общенародные  -  Новый  год,  Международный  женский 
день и т.д.
Но не только на праздниках раскрывают свои таланты студенты. 
В СГТИ есть своя команда КВН “СТИляги”,  которая уже участвовала 
в городском конкурсе и имеет свой круг болельщиков.
Студенческая  жизнь  насыщена также  спортивными  событиями. 
Ребята активно  участвуют  в  городских  и  институтских  спартакиадах,

есть  свои  команды  по  футболу,  баскетболу,  волейболу,  группа  аэро­
бики.
Интерес  студентов  к  спорту  велик,  поэтому  на  базе  кафедры 
физвоспитания  был  создан  спортивно-оздоровительный  центр  “Ат­
ланта”.  Таким  образом,  студент  СГТИ  имеет  возможность  стать  не 
только  высококвалифицированным  специалистом,  но  и  гармонично 
развитой личностью.
Здравствуйте, друзья!
Мне  хотелось  бы  рассказать  о  другой,  не  менее  замечательной 
стороне жизни студента - жизни  вне занятий.  Лекции,  зачеты,  сессии, 
удачные  списывания  и  «шпоры»  -  ведь  не только  это  вы  будете  хра­
нить  в  уголках  своей  души  всю  жизнь.  Это  еще  и  воспоминания,  и 
впечатления об увлекательной жизни молодых ярких личностей.
Сегодня  академия  очень  много  делает  для  того,  чтобы  жизнь 
ваша была интересной.  Наши ребята и девушки замечательно  органи­
зуют праздничные мероприятия, фестивали,  конкурсы,  «посвящения в 
студенты», дискотеки и тусовки,  где талантливо  заявляют о себе, зна­
комятся,  влюбляются  и  просто  веселятся.  Выступления  с  авторской 
песней  и  рок-музыкой,  брейк-дансом  и  ролевыми  играми  настолько 
профессиональны,  что забыть  их невозможно.  Для  ребят устраивают­
ся психологические тренинги,  помогающие развить лидерские качест­
ва,  умение  выступать  перед  аудиторией,  проанализировать  личные 
переживания -перечислять можно бесконечно.
Наши  студенты  еще  и  большие  умники  и  умницы  -  многие  за­
нимаются  научно  -  исследовательской  работой.  Каждый  год  команда 
студентов  СГТА  участвует  в  международной  научной  конференции 
«Полярное  сияние»  в  Санкт-Петербурге.  Там  ребята  за  неделю  успе­
вают не только блестяще выступить  с докладами,  но  и отдохнуть,  по­
смотреть  исторические  места,  завести  новые  знакомства,  пообщаться 
с интересными людьми.
Работая  вожатым  в педагогических отрядах  в  летнем лагере,  вы 
окунетесь  в  мир  романтики  и  приключений,  научитесь  общаться  с 
детьми,  устраивать  конкурсы,  игры  и  досуг.  А  если  вы  мечтаете  по­
смотреть  мир  и  поработать  в  летнее  время,  то  для  вас  -студенческая 
программа TIPS и... Америка.
В  СГТА  есть  замечательный  спортзал,  проводятся  соревнова­
ния,  автомобильные  гонки,  военно-спортивные  эстафеты,  походы  в 
горы  и  спартакиады  -  это  для  парней  и  девушек,  ведущих  активный 
образ жизни.
У  нас  есть  все,  чтобы  студенческая  жизнь  радовала вас  яркими 
событиями.
