DEVELOPMENT OF INSTITUTE OF REAL ESTATE IN HISTORICAL VIEW 
The paper analyzes the evolution of legal regulation of relations associated with real estate, from old Oriental countries 
to ancient states and medieval Western Europe countries, as well as European legislation of modern (XVII – the begin-
ning of XX) and contemporary history. The period of ancient Eastern states is considered using acts of law and archaeo-
logical materials. The author analyzes the features of landowing in Middle East of ancient period, both royal and territo-

sidered. The features of mortgage relations in the ancient law are investigated. The evolution of legal ownership of real 
estate in the Western Europe countries is explored: from the ancient world to the medieval time, and further to the peri-
ods of modern and recent times. Particularly, the author considers the evolution of the Russian legislation on immovable 
property: from the Russian Pravda to the Soviet and post-Soviet era.
