Abstract. The article considers patriotism from the standpoint of a value approach. It is
proved that social justice and solidarity are the key principles of patriotic education. The main
problems associated with the patriotic education of university students are analyzed. In addition,
in the framework of this article, the goals and directions of patriotic education set in the state
program “Patriotic education of citizens of the Russian Federation for 2016–2020” are
considered; The results of the study of attitudes towards patriotism and the issues of its
upbringing of students of universities
