IX. My country
My country - Kazakhstan
Kazakhstan, officially the Republic of Kazakhstan, is an independent country located mainly in Central Asia. It borders Russia in the north and west, China in the east, and Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan in the south. The capital is Nur-Sultan, formerly known as Astana. Almaty, Kazakhstan's largest city, was the country's previous capital until 1997. Kazakhstan is the world's largest landlocked country, the world's largest Muslim-majority country by land area (and the northernmost), and the ninth-largest country in the world. It has a population of more than 19 million.
Kazakhstan has an "extreme" continental climate, with warm summers and very cold winters. Indeed, Nursultan is the second coldest capital city in the world after Ulaan Batoor, Mongolia.
Kazakhstan is associated with oil and 'the black gold' takes the number one spot in the list. Kazakhstan produces approximately 100 million tons of oil per year. The runner-up in the top ten of Kazakhstani brands is Baikonur, the first and the largest space launch complex in the world.
Kazakhs have always revered and highly valued their national customs and traditions
The main tradition of Kazakhs, which eventually transformed into a feature of national character, is hospitality which is considered a sacred duty in the Kazakh society. At all times, the steppe inhabitants did their best to please their guest. Therefore, each traveller knew that he or she would be welcomed anywhere in the Kazakh land.
Respect for the elderly is another positive feature of Kazakhs. Traditionally, a child from early childhood is taught to be moderate and honest when dealing with older, wiser and life experienced people.
Nur-Sultan’s look and atmosphere indicate an aspiration of Kazakhstan to the future. The Kazakhstan young capital is very modern and bright. The ingenious architectural projects which use advanced technologies and design, super modern hotels, business-centers, multi-storey new buildings reflect city’s bold ambitions and gushing energy.
Center of the city is decorated with such landmarks and attractions of Nur-Sultan as the Bayterek monument and Palace of Peace and Reconciliation, which were built under the project of the well-known modern architecture Norman Foster. The Ak-Orda Presidential Palace can be seen on excursions, while the whole Kazakhstan in miniature on the area of 2ha can be seen in the Atameken ethno-memorial complex. Duman recreational complex is an interesting place of rest and entertainment. Along with shops, cinema theaters, park amusements and cafés, there are also Museum of Miniatures and seaquarium, home of more than 2,000 sea animals, brought there from different corners of the planet and the super-modern Astana-Arena stadium, which admits 30,000 spectators. Nur-Sultan city, like any other modern capital, has a wide choice of restaurants and cafés, as well as parks, museums, theaters and cinema theaters which are interesting for a tourist to visit.
