Introduction In this fast-moving world, society and technol - ogy has undergone considerable developments and changes. Technological developments have caused a significant number of jobs to be done by the robots and machines, as a result of which 800 million glob - al workers will be under the threat of losing their jobs by 2030 (Global Institute Report, 2017:67) [1]. Therefore, the skills distinguishing people from robots have been a matter of discussion in the field of education as well as in the business world and herewith a great deal of attention has recently been drawn to the term ‘21st Century Skills’ by educa - tors and researchers. Some discussions have initi - ated integrating ‘21st Century Skills’ into the con - text of English language teaching as well (Bouzid, 2016:98; Heinrich, 2015:10; Nunan, 2012:25; Sun, 2016:56) [2,3,4,5]. English, being a global language and gaining greater importance as a school subject in Kazakh - stan, might have a leading role to help develop these skills of the students. However, considering the fact that most teachers in Kazakhstan take the course - books as basis of their teaching, the textbooks de - signed to teach English language have a significant influence on developing and fostering 21st Century Skills. In this study, the 4Cs of 21st Century Skills, namely, ‘Communication’, ‘Collaboration’, ‘Criti - cal Thinking’ and ‘Creativity’ will be analysed in ELT coursebooks. Purpose of the study The purpose of this study is to review and analyse the coursebooks designed for English lan - guage teaching purposes in terms of the inclusion of the 4Cs (Communication, Collaboration, Critical 95 M.E.
