The hypothesis of the research is as follows: If we use group and pair forms of work as a tool in various teaching methods, these forms in English lessons are an effective means of developing language and communication skills and have many advantages.
The methodological basis of the research is the works of the following authors working in the direction of studying pair work in foreign language lessons:Davis, James R., Ostlund. K. L., Thelen, Herbert A., Atkinson, D., Doff, A. The group form of educational activities emerges as a substitute for the traditional form education. It is based on the ideas of Harmer, J., J. Rousseau, I. Pestalozzi, and J. Dewey on the free development of children.
I.G. Pestalozzi believed that combination of individual and group learning activities helps children to learn successfully, and their lessons and amateur performances increase the effectiveness of the curriculum.
The practical value lies in the fact that this work contains information on a practical plan for the use of group and pair work at the initial and senior stages, as well as varieties of group work.
The scientific novelty consists in the fact that within the framework of this work, the didactic features of the teaching method in pairs and groups are considered.
The theoretical significance of the research is as follows: the role and place of teaching in groups and pairs of cooperation in the educational process in a foreign language are determined; selected models of interaction in groups of cooperation, theoretically substantiated their correspondence to the stages of cognitive activity and educational tasks. A typology of exercises for teaching in small groups of cooperation in the formation of communicative competence at the middle stage of training has been compiled. A set of exercises has been developed for teaching in cooperation in the formation of communicative competence at the stage of the formation of grammatical and lexical skills, critical thinking skills for different types of speech activities (speaking, reading, writing, listening).
The work consists of an introduction, two chapters, conclusion, a list of bibliography. The first chapter consists of three paragraphs, where consider the theoretical aspects of group and pair work in English language lesson. Here we study the principles, characteristics and advantages of these forms of education.
The second chapter covers the practical aspects of our research. Namely, activities andexercises for conducting an English lesson in the form of pair and group work.In conclusion, the results of our research are summarized. Testing the correctness of the hypothesis and evaluating the results of the work performed. The bibliography consists of 20 sources that we studied to compile and conduct our research. The ability to learn is associated with the development of a form of educational cooperation. A Chinese proverb says: “Tell me and I will forget. Show me, and maybe I will remember. Make me an accomplice and I will understand”. [1] It is on the organization of the students’ independent activity in the classroom that the modern teacher should build the educational process at school.
