You’re 16 and finally you can leave school! By now, you’re probably sick of teachers, desks, tests and exams. But don’t just run for the exit. You need to think carefully about what to do next. If you want a professional career, you will need to go to university and get a degree. To do that, you need to stay at high school for another two years. But you needn’t stay at the same place. There are several options in the district of Northacre. St. Leopold’s School has the best pass rate of all the high schools in the district. It offers a wide range of subjects in the humanities and sciences. St Leopold’s is, of course, a private school, so may be too expensive for you. But don’t worry, there are several other options if you want to follow the academic route. Knowle Grammar School is a state school, so there are no fees, and it has excellent tuition and facilities. It is a boys’ school from the ages of 11-16, but from 16-18 it is co-educational. But it is selecti ve, so you’ll have to pass an exam to get in. If you’re interested in going into Business, check out Wyle River Academy. This school specializes in subjects like Business Studies, Management and Economics. If you prefer the arts, look at the courses on offer at Northacre College. Here you can study woodwork, art, textiles and much more. A final option is to get an apprenticeship with a local or national company. You will get on-the-job training, gain certificates or diplomas and start earning straight away.

- Hi! Have you decided how to celebrate our favourite holiday? - You mean New Year’s Day, don’t you? Well, I think I’ll stay with my parents as usual. First of all, New Year is a family holiday. Traditionally, on the thirty-first of December we decorate a fur-tree and put presents under it. The family meal is a central part of our celebration. When the Kremlin clock strikes twelve, we wish each other ’Happy New Year’ and give each other presents. I usually get lots of presents from my relatives so I’m looking forward to this day. It’s a great time of the year! You can come and celebrate with us if you like. - Well, thank you, but I think it’s rather boring to celebrate this holiday with parents. There’s not much to do except watching TV and talking. Besides, your parents usually go to bed rather early and won’t allow us to stay up all night. Why don’t we have something different this year? - Perhaps you are right. But what do you suggest? - Some of my friends are having a New Year party at home. Why not join them? We are of the same age and have common views on many things so you can make a lot of new friends. I’m sure we’ll have a lot of fun playing games and dancing.

- How was your trip to Great Britain? - Wonderful! It was great experience for me. - Were you there just for sightseeing or for studying? - It was my first time there, so I wanted to see as many sights as possible. And, it was an educational exchange, so I got to attend one British school with my friend. - Did you stay at his place, while you were there? - Yes, his family was so nice to have me for the whole month. They were my host family. - What did you see in London? - First of all, we visited the Trafalgar Square and saw the Nelson's Column on it. Secondly, we were at the Piccadilly Circus. It's my favourite parts of London. It is especially beautiful at night I took many pictures of it. - Which part of Great Britain do they live in? - They live in Southampton - a city on the south coast of England. It's the largest city in Hampshire county. I liked this place very much. First of all, the weather was fantastic, while I was there. It was sunny and warm almost every day. - Did you go there? - Of course. We spent a couple of days in London, although I think that one should live a month there to get acquainted with the whole city.
- Maria, what do you do?? - I work in a big shopping centre in Madrid. I am a telephonist. - Where do you work? - My work place is a cubicle. It’s very small. There is a chair, a computer and a telephone. - It sounds very nice - No, it isn’t. Anyway, basically I answer calls all day. I get calls from customers, but also, I have calls from suppliers about orders and deliveries. - And do you like your job? - Not really. The worst thing is that people think that I'm responsible for everything. - What do people say? - It’s horrible! They are always complaining about things and shouting at me. It’s awful! Of course, I can’t hang up. - Is it really hard? - Yes. I suffer from stress. I really hate phone at home. It makes me jump sometimes. I want to disconnect it but my husband needs it for work. - What are you going to do?
