of the right lung, MBT+. Intestinal tuberculosis, active stage, complicated by ascites.
A new case. Drug-resistant tuberculosis. A19.0."
Results.
Clinical manifestations and radiographic findings of disease debuted
on the 25th day of the newborn's life. Symptoms of intoxication and respiratory
distress: fever, shortness of breath, cough, wet wheezing sounds were dominating.
The X-ray pattern of focal-infiltrative polymorphic foci in the parenchyma of both
lungs was determined. The diagnosis was made after detection of MBT DNA from
gastric lavage by the G-Xpert MTB/Rif + method, by the Bioneer TB+ method, H-
resistant, R-resistant, by the AFS 3+ microscopy method. The patient received
antituberculosis therapy for drug-resistant tuberculosis per body weight.
Conclusions.
This case exemplifies the possibility of congenital tuberculosis
in children with infections who do not respond favorably to antibiotic therapy. Even
when there is no maternal history, this diagnosis should not be excluded in infants.
