The Elves and the Shoemaker Once upon a time there was a shoemaker. He had no money to buy food for himself and his wife. When he looked round his shop, he found that all he had was just enough leather to make one pair of shoes. He put the leather on the table, ready to sew the next day and went upstairs to bed. In the morning he came into the room and couldn’t believe his eyes. Instead of the leather he saw a pair of fine shoes. He was very surprised. Who could make the shoes so perfectly?
Later that day, a rich woman came into the shop to buy some shoes. “These are very fine shoes,” she said as she tried them on. The woman gave him a lot of money for them.
Now the shoemaker could buy some food and leather for two pairs of shoes. The same thing happened night after night. Soon the shoemaker and his wife became very rich. But they wanted to know who helped them. They decided not to sleep at night and to find out who helped them. And they saw how two tiny elves ran into the room and made shoes. The shoemaker and his wife gave them many presents and lived happily for a long time.
