LISTENING COMPREHENSION
VARIANT 75

A “Poor” Family
It was a little American boy’s first day at a new school. His mother said good-bye to him, and then said, "Don’t tell anyone that we are rich."
"All right, Mum." he said.
The first task the teacher gave each pupil was to write about his family. The rich boy remembered what his mother said and wrote: "My family is poor. We live in a poor house in a poor district. My father says that it is better to be poor than to be rich because rich people have a very difficult life. They must always think about getting money and they don't sleep much.
Everybody in our house is poor. The servants are poor, the driver is poor, and the gardener is poor too."
