One form of digital technologies is social media, it is one of the results of the advance of technology. The social network is also known as “social media”. These are Internet sites that allow people to communicate with each other over the Internet.Social media is one of the technologies that mostly used by people around the world, starting from the young learner to old people. For the school students, they used social media in various situation in their daily activities. There are different types of social networks. There are general social networks such as Instagram or blog networks, microblogs, and specific, thematic social networks for uploading videos or images. An example of a video social network is YouTube, a blogging network is WordPress, for photographers or those who just like to take pictures is Flickr, and an example of microblogging is Twitter [3]. In the English foreign language context, the use of social networks provides some opportunities to develop students' English language skills. It is the fact that English is one of the languages that mostly used in social networks, because English is known as international languages that is used all over the world to communicate each other [4]. English in Kazakhstan is used by people especially the students as the foreign language, where the students will get English and learn English in just certain places like schools, courses, or universities as one of the available subjects in that places. 50 respondents are participated in the survey. Wherefore this study is intended to examine the use of social media in English language learning by the students at school-lyceum named after Y. Gagarin. To achieve the purpose of this study, we attempt to answer these questions: 1) What kinds of social networks are mostly used in learning English by the students and teachers? 2) What do the students and teachers use social networks in learning English for? |
