Abstract. The article is devoted to the possibilities of using lexical games during English
lessons for the purpose of patriotic education of students. The reasons why a foreign language is
a subject suitable for the development of civic consciousness, and also features of lexical games
as technique of teaching a foreign language are briefly described. Examples of several lexical
games that are aimed at patriotic education and the development of interest in students’ country
culture and history, as well as advancing of knowledge in given areas are presented.
