Abstract. This article discusses the historical and modern aspects of the formation of
spiritual and moral values of the Russian society, reveals the huge role of the Russian Orthodox
Church in the development of the ideas of patriotism in the Russian army and in society as a
whole. It is noted that Patriotic ideas are the most important component of the national ideology
of the state and the fundamental basis for ensuring its national security.
