KAZAKHSTAN
Annotation
The article examines the role of virgin migration in the changes in the number and ethnic composition of the
population of Northern Kazakhstan. The demographic consequences of large-scale resettlement of a significant
number of representatives of different ethnic groups in the region during the years of virgin lands development are
noted. For the Kazakh ethnos, virgin migration resulted in huge negative consequences, which resulted in a
catastrophic decline in the share in the overall structure of the population in the northern regions. The data of the
1959 census on the number of Russians, Ukrainians, Byelorussians, Germans and other ethnic groups, which
became the most numerous in this period, are given. A comparative analysis of the number and proportion of
Kazakhs, Russians and representatives of other ethnic groups in the context of virgin areas - Akmola, Kustanai,
Kokchetav, Pavlodar and North Kazakhstan.
