Another significant application of an Emergency Shutdown is in an Emergency Ventilation system (Figure 2.7). When a problem is identified which requires express venting, it is vital that a safety system can detect and respond to the problem, or even detect it before it becomes one. An illustration of an Emergency Ventilation system could be a smoke detection system. If a fire is detected, the system would likely shut down all plant equipment to contain the fire, not permitting oxygen in to allow it to burn, but if smoke was detected they may want to vent the smoke out, as a result switching on plant equipment to do so.

CONCLUSION
As a result, of course work, the major concepts and definitions of an emergency shutdown system were comprehended. To minimize the consequences of emergency situations Emergency Shutdown System is intended in order to reduce the potential of flooding, escape of hazardous materials, or outbreak of fire.
The activation mechanisms and levels of shutdown were contemplated. Accordingly, ESD systems are able to initiate by manual activation as well as by automatic activation means. There are several levels of ESD (total plant shutdown, unit shutdown, equipment shutdown, equipment protective system shutdown, routine alarm), at which different actions are performed to shut down only some parts of facility, also the entire facility in case of high emergency level.
In addition to this, the activation points and hardware features of ESD were investigated. The Emergency Shutdown system might be used to constantly observe the safety parameters of the workshop and shall undertake actions to retain the safety of the plants on demand. Push-in knobs or buttons have typically been used for hardwired ESD activation. To prevent false activation for ESD activation, each of options requires a confirmed action by an operator. In general, the position of ESD system should be highly visible, particularly in colors that contrast with the rest of the equipment housings. The ESD system must be connected to Fire and Gas system, control panels of equipment containing automated IPS protection systems to turn off the installation and electric switches.
The purpose of course work was achieved by analyzing and determining the role of emergency shutdown systems at the entire facility. Life support and emergency resilience of facilities is ensured through the use of automated security systems based on electronic dispatch systems SCADA and distributed control systems DCS, as well as the analysis of the life cycle of facility security. At the early stages of the design, the concept of evacuation and rescue of personnel should be defined, which included ensuring safe emergency movement and took into account the number of personnel, the distance to neighboring facilities and the coast, environmental conditions, types of work performed, the availability of water or air transport, as well as the size and type of facility.
