INTRODUCING SYLLABLE

All the words in English consist of syllables. Different words have different number of syllables.
Mum – 1 syllable mother – 2 syllables grandmother – 3 syllables

A syllable is a group of one or more sounds. The essential part of the syllable is a vowel (V).

The simplest type of syllable is just a vowel sound.
V - [u:] – Ooh

Some syllables have one or more consonants before the vowel.
CV - [su:] – Sue, CCV - [blu:] - blue
