STRONG AND WEAK SYLLABLES


Did you eat bananas in London?


The words banana and London have vowel what are written the same but pronounced differently.
Banana – [bǝ’na:nǝ] London – [‘lʌndǝn]


Stressed syllables have strong vowels, unstressed syllables have weak vowels.


Weak vowels are usually [ǝ] and [i] in English.
