• C/O, "care of". This abbreviation means that if a letter is sent to a person (let it be Prof. A.B.
Ivanov) whose house address is at present unknown, and who is travelling at the time somewhere
around the country, but there is a person at the University who must know Prof. Ivanov's
whereabouts (let it be Dr. Robert B. Smith), the address on the envelope should be typed as follows:

• The enclosure, Encl. If the letter contains any enclosures this is indicated, in the bottom left-
hand corner by the abbreviation "Encl." or word "Enclosures". For instance "Enclosures:3". This is
typed under the typist's reference and the item/s enclosed may be mentioned specifically.
• The abbreviation "CC": means "carbon copy" (or circular correspondence). It means that
carbon copy (or copies) of this letter was (were) dispatched to other person (or persons) and that
