A.B. Anisimov Analysis of English translation of “Ellis Batur” by P.V. Ogotoeva
The author of the article analyzes the English translation of the extract of ―Eles
Bootur‖ by P. Ogotoev. ―Eles Bootur‖ is one of the most outstanding monuments of
the folklore of the Sakha people. Olongkho "Eles Bootur" has been translated into
English by A.A.Skryabina. The sense of the source text and its stylistic colouring are
reflected in the translation. The translator uses the Yakut words and expressions quite
moderately to make them more understanding for the readers. The translator has
made some additions to the source text when translating it into English.
As a whole A.A.Skryabina's translation is proper since the translator reveals the
subject matter of the work, transfers national colour of the epic text, and acquaints
foreign readers with culture, mythology, traditions and life of the Yakuts.
