We need a place (where) we could stay for several days.
In identifying relative clauses, we can leave out object pronouns:
I feel sorry for the man jurors found guilty.
We usually leave out the relative pronoun
that when it is the
object in a relative clause:
I insist that you should do it the way (that) I showed you.
That can be left out informally after many common reporting
verbs:
I thought (that) you left for London.
The lawyer suggested (that) his client should be released for
lack of strong evidence.
Exercise 48. Translate the sentences paying attention to
the noun substitution:
1. A just war is
one that is fought against aggressors.
2. The victory of our state in the Great Patriotic War was not
only
that of its army, it was the victory of the whole nation.
3. Each state (
штат
) has its own system of courts similar to
that
of the federal courts.
4. Judgements and sentences excluding
those passed by the
Supreme Court may be appealed against in a court of higher instance.
5. We want to have friendly relations with all governments and
