Note: some words borrowed from Latin or Greek keep their Lat-
in or Greek plural forms. This tendency is still strong in the language
of science, but in fiction and colloquial English there is the tendency
to give to certain words the regular English plural forms. Thus in some
cases two plural forms are preserved (formulae, formulas; antennae,
antennas).
Exercise 8. Give the singular form of the following nouns:
rules, bureaux, countries, crimes, taxes, cities, holidays, posi-
tions, diagnoses, sentences, people, sciences, teachers, certificates,
