educational technologies (edterms) are considered, which are then classified according to the
way they are formed in English. The study shows that the most recent terms in English are the
nouns formed using compounding, abbreviation and derivation.
Keywords: term, word formation, compounding, abbreviation, blending, clipping, electronic
education.
Introduction
The present paper aims to investigate the types of word formation applied while the
processes of new phenomena nomination in the sphere of electronic education. A review of
literature on educational terminology and terminology in general reveals that one of the major
challenges in teaching and learning a language is understanding new terms in educational
sphere. Much of the recent research in language teaching and learning has focused on innovated
techniques in teaching, different classroom types, computer-mediated communication and many
other new issues, which connects teachers and learners with educational platforms(MOODLE, I
Cloud), asynchronous discussions, on-line programs, e-teacher programs and using local or
global networks. While many studies claim that new language promotes communicative
competence by supporting interaction in the target language, few have explored the potential for
promoting knowledge of terminology with professional development and effective language
teaching. The awareness of terms formation and its semantics provides environments for
meaningful interaction between peers, but it could be even more useful in addressing an on-
going problem, that is, professional development and lifelong learning. New words and phrases
appear as a direct reaction to the need to talk about new concepts, and one of the most direct
ways of doing this is to simply combine existing words, which together make a sensible
representation of a new idea. The collection of terms presented in Ed Tech Cheat Sheet is a
guide to help teachers and students learn about the important trends in educational technology.
