there was a significant difference in the amount of use of the Russian and Kazakh languages in the
names of events. Examples of eventonyms of the first period (1989-1991) are the names of festivals
in Russian; the holiday of friendship
«Пою мое Отечество», the
city festival of folk art
«Творческие мастерские третьего всесоюзного»; in the Kazakh language, the national holiday
of spring and labor
«Наурыз мейрамы», an open festival of amateur films
«Айналайын-89».
In the second period from 1999 to 2001, one can notice the active use of all three languages
(Kazakh, Russian and English) in the creation of event names. The use of the Kazakh language in
eventonyms, on average, was shown by 32%, the Russian language - 41% and English - 16%. For
example, kaz.
«Салауатты өмір үшін» спортты үгіт автожарысы,
«Дауа» эко-этно-дизайн
көрмесі; rus. II международный фестиваль искусств
«Казахстанцы – звезды мирового
балета», фестиваль моды
«Сезон Востока»; eng. конкурс красоты
Miss Tourism Kazakhstan-
open,
«Миллениум - Алматы» на стыке тысячилетий – предновогоднее развлечение.
In the eventonyms of the third period from 2009 to 2011, the
use of the Russian language
decreases slightly - 35%. The decline in the use of the Russian language was replaced by an
increase in the use of the Kazakh and English languages in the names of events, which makes it
possible to observe the dynamics of changes in the language policy in the Republic of Kazakhstan
as a result of the implementation of the project of the trinity of languages: Kazakh,
Russian and
English.
In the fourth period from 2016 to 2019, we see an almost threefold increase in eventonyms in
English from 20 to 34%, and vice versa, a decrease in the Kazakh language from 32 to 17%. Event
names in Russian accounted for 35% of the total number of event names. For example, kaz.
«Алтын домбыра» республикалық ақындар айтысы; rus. фестиваль оркестровой музыки под
открытым небом
«Парад оркестров»; eng. international exhibition of fashion
Central Asia
Fashion Spring, the first summer
festival of family recreation MAMA FEST, city quest game
Almaty
Run Quest.
Conclusion. O. Bever points out that typical findings suggest that the number of languages
displayed in the linguistic landscape determines the status of the language and
reflects the specific
strengths of government regulations and local populations [1, 235].
As discussed in subsection, the analysis of the collected eventonyms in diachrony showed the
existence of three languages in the creation of the names of events in the analyzed three periods
(1989-1991; 1999-2001; 2009-2011), such as Kazakh, Russian and English. Compared to the first
period, in the second period the number of eventonyms
in Russian has almost halved, while in
Kazakh, on the contrary, it has increased; the difference between the use of the Russian and Kazakh
languages has decreased threefold. One of the interesting processes during these periods are: firstly,
through the sociolinguistic analysis we have observed the transformation of linguistic situation in
Almaty city; secondly, in the certain period the dominancy of Russian and a significant increase in
the number of names of events in English.
