But as great as his imagination was, Shakespeare never conceived that one day man would be able to circle the world with words and images in a fraction of second. Today, through the media of radio and television, communication has become almost instantaneous – even over great distances.
Television and radio are truly modern magic with the coming of the age of science, technical achievements have been multiplied beyond earlier man’s wildest dreams. Not even fabled Aladdin with his miracle working lamp had magic as powerful as the millions of families who have access to television and radio. By a twist of the digital, one can bring music, sports and world events into the living-room. By a twist of the dial, one can be transported to a stadium, to a theatre, to a lecture hall, etc. Television and radio have placed you and your family in instant contact with virtually the entire world. The programmes aired on radio and television are numerous in kind and in quality. Some of the programmes offer rich opportunities for acquiring culture, entertainment and information. Others, of low artistic and intellectual standards, offer little opportunity of any kind. Because of this great variety in programmes you must set up critical standards for choosing among them.
