The Victory Day
The most memorable public event I`ve ever visited is definitely the Victory Day. It`s is traditionally held on the 9th of May.
Despite the fact that a lot of cheerful parades are held on this day, I can`t say that this public holiday is a happy day for everyone. On the contrary, many people are sad because their close relatives and friend died on this terrible war! Moreover, many people were seriously injured and became disabled. However, we are happy that our country wasn`t occupied by the enemies, that`s why we are having plenty of parades all over the country.
We must be grateful to those who put their lives on the altar of the USSR victory. We must keep their memory carefully and appreciate everything they did for us, as we are living just because they are dead. (127 words)
Patriotic war
Весь71 years have passed since the day of the Victory in the Great Patriotic war, but its echo till now doesn`t calm down in humans` souls. We haven`t the right to forget those soldiers, who died for our bright future. We must come down the memory about one of the most terrible war, which concerned every family, from father to son.
This war has left its sign in my family too. My great-grandfather is Shvakin Michael lived in the village RybinskieBudy of Kursk region. He was called to defend the native land in 1941. He fought in the infantry under the command of marshal Rokossovski. His 16 years old son Leonid was called up in 1942. As fate has willed it they both took part in the liberation of the town Konigsberg, but didn`t meet. The father and the son went the whole Europe and met the Victory day in Berlin. (182 words)

There is no bad weather but there are bad clothes
There are four seasons in the year. Each of them brings different weather and different dresses. When it is hot people wear T-shirts and shorts, light blouses and skirts, sport shoes, socks and sandals. In cold weather people usually put on warm clothes: jeans and trousers, sweaters and jackets, overcoats and caps. In winter they wear fur coats and fur caps, high boots and mittens or gloves. The proverb says: there is no bad weather, there are bad clothes. Another proverb says: everything is good in its season. When you think what to wear, choose the right dress. Think what is good at the sports ground and what is good at the party and why a long dress looks beautiful on a woman but is funny on a little girl. When you buy clothes, try them on, make sure that they are your size, that they suit you well and that you like their colour. (148 words)

James Thurber
James Thurber, one of the best contemporary American humorists and cartoonists, was born at Columbus, in 1894. Upon graduation from the Ohio State University he worked at the American Embassy in Paris from 1927 onwards he was on the staff of the New Yorker, in which magazine he first published many of his sketches and drawings. James Thurber’s better known works are “The Thurber Carnival, Thurber Country, Thurber’s Dogs, and The Thurber Album.” The Years with Ross and a number of other collections most of his works are illustrated with his own drawings. Towards the end of his life James Thurber became increasingly blind. He died in New York in 1961. James Thurber has created worlds in which wicked, sagacious people triumph over frightened little men who are trying desperately to master life’s problems. (123-words)
