Granny gets ill
Last month old Mrs Conrad was on a visit to her old friend and on the way home she was caught by rain. When she arrived home her coat was wet through. Next day in the morning she found that she could not get up as usual. She had a headache and was running a temperature. The thermometer showed thirty-seven point two.
Her stepdaughter, Pauline, called in a doctor by telephone. The doctor, Mr Frost, examined Mrs Conrad. He listened to her heart and lungs, measured her blood pressure and felt her pulse. Then he prescribed her some medicine. He said that Mrs Conrad had to take the medicine four times a day and keep to bed. Mr Frost promised to come in the next day.
Then Pauline went to the chemist's shop and bought all the prescribed medicine. But at night Granny felt worse — she coughed and ran high temperature. In the morning the Conrads had to call in an ambulance. The ambulance brought Mrs Conrad to hospital where she was X-rayed and her blood was tested. The X-ray picture showed that Granny had pneumonia. So she was placed in a ward of the hospital. The doctor prescribed her injections of penicillin and she was given injections five times a day. She also took tablets for a cough.
Now Granny is better though she still feels weak, but she hopes to leave the hospital soon. The Conrads often visit her in the hospital and bring her nice things to eat.
