LISTENING COMPREHENSION VARIANT 46 The Power of Imagination Two travelers got to a hotel late in the evening after their long journeys. But there wasn’t a vacant room for one person at that moment. The only vacant room was a double room. At first the travelers didn’t want to spend the night in one room together, but it was raining hard, and they were tired to go to another hotel. So they agreed to spend the night in the same room.
In the room they went to sleep at once. Suddenly one of the travelers was woken up by a loud noise. “What’s the matter?” he asked. The second man answered in a weak voice, “I am sorry, I have got asthma. I feel very bad. Please open the window quickly.’
The first traveler jumped out of bed and began to find matches, but he couldn’t find them in the dark. The sick man was moaning, “Air, air… I want fresh air. I am dying.’
The man tried to find the window and he thought he had found it. But he couldn’t open it, so he took a chair and broke the window. The sick man stopped moaning at once.
In the morning when they woke up, they saw the window was closed, but the large mirror was broken to pieces.
