Russian Economy
Russia has performed strongly over last years, with significant
growth since the late 1990s. A strong balance of payments has
consolidated macroeconomic stability. Export revenues increased
partially due to high oil prices. Foreign investments grow at an even
faster rate. Germany, the Netherlands, the UK, the US and France
are the main investors in the Russian economy.
Russia’s well educated work force
is an important asset for
long-term growth. Its relatively low-cost and generally highly
skilled workers are one of the main attractions for investors.
Russia has become a key global player in the energy industry.
Currently its energy, utilities and mining sector (especially in
electricity and gas) face major reforms to encourage domestic and
foreign businessmen to invest money into these sectors.
Russia holds
the world’s biggest natural gas reserves and is the leading natural
gas producer and gas exporter. Russia holds the world’s second
largest recoverable coal reserves behind only the United States.

Today Russia is the fourth largest
power producer in the world,
with a total electric generation capacity of 205.6 GW.
Metallurgy is also one of the key industries of the Russian
economy. Russian’s total industrial production is about 15% of total
foreign investments.
The world’s major metals companies are interested in
operating or investing in Russia. In recent
years many international
enterprises are expanding their presence in the consumer goods
market. This sector is one of the fastest growing markets in Russia
and attracts foreign investments too.
