(Юксель А. Cтатус ментальных симптомов у студентов по специальности «Сестринское дело» и определение возможных факторов, влияющих на них) SUMMARY This research has been descriptively studied in order to determine the psychological symptoms
of nursing students and the factors thought to affect. The research sample of a state university in the
2009-2010 academic year studying in the nursing department of health school, which consisted of 160
students. Data is collected with ―Questionnaire Form‖ and ―Brief Symptom Inventory‖ developed by
Heppner and Petersen and adapted to Turkish by Şahin and his/her co-worker. In evaluating the data,
percentage, arithmetic average, the significance test of difference between two averages and one-way
analysis of variance is used. It has been determined that the students‘ score average of Brief Symptom
Inventory is 55.18±31.71, anxiety sub-scale is 12.53±7.86, depression sub-scale is 14.64±8.79,
negative-self sub-scale is 11.30±8.09, somatization sub-scale is 7.54±5.78 and hostility sub-scale is
9.05±4.91 respectively. Class factor difference of students‘ somatization score average has been
found meaningful, statistically. Second grade students‘ somatization scores have been higher than 3th
and 4th grade students' scores. Brief Symptom Inventory total and sub-scale score averages have not
shown any meaningful difference in terms of students‘ gender, the place that they live during college
life (with family or by one‘s own) and economical situations, statistically. It can be said that the
psychological symptom frequency of the students who participate to the study are low.
