The content of profile education in the senior grades is based on 3 blocks of courses:
1.general educational courses (базовые общеобразовательные курсы) They are based on the invariant (инвариативный) component of one direction of the curriculum(учебный план).
2. profile courses(профильные курсы) They are based on the variable (вариативный) component of the curriculum and consist of the block of the major disciplines of the definite profile, they are called related disciplines (родственные дисциплины) and supplementary (прикладные курсы) courses. The block of major disciplines is studied at the advanced level and is aimed at the future professional development of students.
Supplementary courses are connected with individual interests and demands of each pupil. They are chosen by the students themselves and their attendance is compulsory 1-2-3 times a week. It may happen so that students of different forms and ages can attend the same supplementary course. The students should be offered at least 8-9 supplementary courses. For example, if the students study in socially-humanitarian class they may be offered the following supplementary courses: “English- the language of science”, “Man and politics”, “History of Kazakh nation”, “Organization of scientific investigations”, “School teacher”, “Language, culture, society”, “Business Kazakh language”, “Comparative analysis of Kazakh, Russian, English, American literature”.
So, the second block provides advanced study of related subjects of the definite profile and offers supplementary courses.
3.Еlective courses They are based on the students component of the curriculum and don’t deal with the profile of their studies. For example, students studying in the socially-humanitarian class can take individual courses in Maths and Information technologies, Driving, Business communication. Education thus becomes individually oriented.
Attending elective courses students make oral reports, do problem solving, find additional information on the topic. Evaluation is done through tests, oral interview, doing individual tasks, presenting portfolio. Portfolio may contain annotations of the books read, short reports or essays. The main function of portfolio is to demonstrate what the students know and are able to do.
