Critical period hypothesis (CPH)
A notion that there is a specific and limited time period for language acquisition.
There are two versions of the CPH. The strong version is that children must
acquire their first language by puberty or they will never be able to learn it. The
weak version is that language learning will be wore difficult and incomplete after
puberty.
Cultural aims
The cultural aims mentioned in the school programs of foreign language imply
widening the students' general and philological outlook, cultivating their sense of
beauty and their appreciation of art. Reading of English texts helps students learn
about the life and culture of the English - speaking nations.
Deductive learning
An approach to learning in which students are first taught the rules and given all
the information they need about the language. Then they use these rules in
language activities
Diagnostic test
A diagnostic test is used to identify problems that students have with language.
The teacher diagnoses the language problems students have. It helps the teacher to
plan what to teach in future.
