The task of the article is to identify the role of the image of the mirror in the work of Arseniy
Tarkovskiy, as well as to trace the development of this image in the film "Mirror" by Andrey

Tarkovskiy. The analysis of poems showed that the poet’s appeal to the image of the mirror gave
unlimited possibilities of “playing” with space and time, opened the way to knowledge of the world
and self-knowledge, helped to see the boundaries of the surreal and the real. The poetics of Arseniy
Tarkovskiy had a strong influence on the work of director Andrey Tarkovskiy. One of the leading
themes in the work of father and son was the theme of the looking glass. The authors of the article,
based on the principle of integration of different types of art (poetry and cinema), revealed the
symbolic meanings of the image of the mirror and the motives of reflection associated with it, found
ideological and figurative echoes between poems and the movie.
