Advantages of vehicle engine braking.
The first important advantage of engine braking is that its use
significantly increases the life of parts of the main braking system.
The average brake pad life of different Rme vehicles and its limits of
reliability are given in Table 1.

It is clear from the table, the average service life of brake pads
of passenger vehicles is rather small – 13... 24 thousand km,
therefore regular use of engine braking during braking, can give
significant economic effect.
The second advantage of internal combustion engine braking
is that it uses less wear on the tire tread, as they are smoothly loaded
with the braking torque.
The third advantage of frequent use of combustion engine
braking in service braking on modern automobiles is a significant
fuel saving by stopping its consumption in this mode (fuel pump
stopped).

The fourth advantage of ICE braking is that it can be used on
vehicles with any drive: front, rear, full wheel drive.
The fifth very important advantage of ICE braking is that its
frequent use can improve many important performance features of
the vehicle:
1. Increase the controllability and stability of the vehicle,
especially when braking on slippery road surface, as well as in case
of loss of stability due to exceeding the critical speed of the vehicle
with excessive turning;
2. Increase the reliability of the vehicle's braking system by
reducing the wear of brake pads, drums, disks and preventing brake
failure in the case of overheating on tight and steep slopes, as well as
due to the fact that it allows you to stop the vehicle in case it is not
possible to brake it the usual way.
3. improve the fuel efficiency of the vehicle by stopping its
consumption in the ICE braking mode.
