Linguistic characteristics of computer-mediated communication

The article examines the linguistic nature of computer-mediated communication. The
formation and development of computer-mediated communication as a new direction in linguistics
is analyzed on the basis of research by western scholars. The nature of computer-mediated
communication, its linguistic features as a new form of communication is revealed. The various
views of linguists regarding the linguistic features of communication using a computer and other
electronic means are analyzed. Based on the analysis, the similarities and differences between
computer-mediated communication and traditional (oral and written) forms of communication are
revealed.
