Shops and shopping Every week I go to do some shopping in a big supermarket. When I enter I take a basket and go to the shelves to choose what I want. I go to the shelves on the right to buy some bread and rolls, canned meat, vegetables and fruit. Sometimes I also buy some milk and sweets. Our supermarket is rather big. As soon as I get everything into my bag, I leave the store. Next year a new large department store will be built on our street. It will be the largest store in the town. There will be many departments where you can buy everything. Stationery and glasswork will be sold on the ground floor. The first floor will be for apparel and foot wear. (115 words)
English food The English usually have four meals a day: breakfast, dinner and supper. Some people have lunch at one o’clock and some have dinner in the evening. The traditional English breakfast is a meal of bacon and eggs, bread and rolls, marmalade or jam, with tea or coffee. The second meal is served at one o’clock. It consists of two courses if it’s dinner. This meal starts with soup and fruit juice. The next meal is five o’clock tea. Sometimes people may have some sandwiches or biscuits with five o’clock tea but generally very little food. Then after dinner they have black or white coffee. (102words)

Computer games Computer games range from highly educational, creative, delightful ones such as SimCity, which is training a whole new generation of enlightened city planners via games of skill such as sky, flight, and skateboard and sailing simulation, to pretty disgustingly violent ones such as Armageddon series and Apocalypse Now and Tomb Raider, artfully designed to lure teenagers and alarm parents. It always amazes me at hear the parents of a nine or ten-year-old saying «He’s up playing computer games». And when you ask which games he likes, they don’t know. (90 words)
