ABOUT THE ROLE OF THE WORKS OF THE FOUNDERS OF COMPARATIVE-HISTORICAL
LINGUISTICS F.BOPP AND Y. GRIMM
This article deals with the merits of the founders of comparative-historical linguistics F. Bopp and J. Grimm and
their contribution to the development of science. The authors emphasize the main value of the work of the practice of
scientific research, which served as the starting point for the further development of the comparative-historical study
of the Indo-European languages. The authors describe the significant works of F. Bopp and J. Grimm, who made a
significant contribution to the comparative Linguistics, historiography, source study of comparative mythology, vari-
ous areas of folklore.The authors note the primary merit of F. Bopp and J. Grimm, which is in the fact, that following
the example of other sciences they introduced into the Linguistics comparative and historical approach to the study
of language facts of scientific research
