Introduction XXI century, especially in the context of the global COVID-19 pandemic, many educational institutions have
switched to the provision of educational services in a distance form, respectively using Movies in education
become a wonderful tool for teaching. Academic researchers in many different sciences have studied the film
as an academic instrument of teaching (Tan, 2018).
The teaching method using various films is applied in subjects such as history, literature, biology, as well as
in psychology. There are a number of researchers Raymond J. Green, Chuchai Smithikrai Elizabeth M. Nelson,
Christian, M. Christian, O.L. Osadchuk, T.N. Pedan who study specific experience, the use of films in teaching
the subject of psychology. Research data show how the use of films (mainly bibliographic or films based on
real events) enables the student to easily understand the theory of psychology and easily apply knowledge of
psychology in the analysis of films.
Literature Review Raymond J. Green, in his article “Teaching Psychology Through Film, Video”, has write why watching films
is effective in studying psychology and how to select and screen films for students. The author also suggested
the top 13 films that which gives good examples about some psychological theories.
According of Raymond J. Green research there are
three critical rules to teaching psychology through movie in the classroom :
The first, watching and analyzing the film before class. Previewing gives an opportunity to fully explore
the plot of the film. In which psychological theories you can use this movie. Are there some of the episodes of
the movie that can or should be skipped?
The second, watch the movie with the class. Some of students may think, “No learning today” or “we are
free today”. The teacher should periodically comment on the film. Show the connection of the film with the
theory of psychology. Similarly, accurately write the film analysis parameters. What do students need to pay
special attention to?
