Professor at Chiang Mai University Chuchai Smithikrai held research with purpose determining whether a
film-based curriculum can influence the development of positive characteristics and behavior of Thai students.
The study involved 156 undergraduate students from a public university in northern Thailand. The period of
the research lasted for two semesters of the 2014-2015 academic year. The results of the study showed that
a systematic film-based training course effectively influences the positive quality of the characteristics and
behavior. (Smithikrai, 2016).
The authors Nelson M. & Christian have written 106-page resource offering instructors the tools to use
films to improve the quality of their teaching. Students' grades consistently show that films help them explore
topics, provide an alternative to traditional lectures, and give them a different perspective. However, students
also say that they do not like watching films if they do not understand how the film matches the course material.
This resource provides psychology teachers with additional tools for using films, such as proven study guides,
sample curricula, student papers, links, and online resources. The film study guides in this resource have been
used in a variety of psychology classes and can be applied to many other courses (Nelson, 2016).
Russian scientists Osadchuk O.L., Pedan T.N. in the article “The use of educational films in practical classes
in psychology at the university” made a deep analysis of the didactic possibilities of educational films in
practical classes in psychology at the university (Osadchuk &Pedan, 2014).
Also researchers, noted that the didactic possibilities of using educational films in practical classes in
psychology at the university (it should be emphasized that the course of psychology is included in university
programs in all specialties) are determined by following:
1) the purpose of this course, which is to form students' competencies in the field of psychology, which are
necessary in their future professional activity.
2) the content of the course related to the development of the foundations of various scientific fields (general
psychology, developmental psychology, social psychology, etc.).
3) the methodology of teaching psychology, which is defined in the broad sense of this concept as “a method
of psychological education and training in practical psychological skills”.
4) the methodological capabilities of the educational film as a teaching tool, which, by providing a synchronous
presentation of sound and illustrative material, organically combines with other traditional teaching aids (for
example, a living word, traditional printed textbooks) (Berk, 2009).
