The article discusses the functioning of an oxymoron as a stylistic device used in the
literature, namely poetry. The main purpose of the article is to study the nature of the oxymoron,
based on the theory of linguists and literary scholars and identification of the “unity” of opposition
of the structure. Reveals the poetic meaning of an oxymoron in the example of the Kazakh and
Russian poetry.
