Abstract. The article describes diachronically the concept of patriotism in the history of
our country since after the 1917 revolution up to our time, mainly through personal experience
and the author’s family history. The notions of patriotism and love for Motherland, hurray-
patriotism, nationalism, chauvinism are differentiated. Patriotism dependence on politics is
demonstrated. The importance of patriotic education in schools by the example of great devotion
and self-sacrificing attitude to this noble cause is highlighted. The latest moves of the country’s
authorities in this sphere are presented.
