CONCEPTUALIZATION OF BODY PARTS IN ENGLISH
AND TURKISH IDIOMS

This study is based on the theory of conceptual metaphor (Lakoff and Johnson,
1980; Lakoff, 1987), which marks a significant role of metaphor in human life.
The article examines the concepts of body parts in the components of
phraseological units in English and Turkish languages, denoting parts of the

body. Comparative analysis showed that the British and Turkish idioms, mostly
share the same concepts, ie have a common conceptual framework.
