Exercise 87. Translate the following sentences, pay atten-
tion to the verbs followed by the gerund:
1. The doctor insisted on his patient taking the medicine regu-
larly.
2. Excuse me for coming in without knocking.
3. While being cross-examined the witness for the prosecution 
denied having spoken with the defendant.
4. Do you mind this lawyer arguing your case in court?
5. They blame him for having testified at the trial.
6. His barrister succeeded in winning the case.
7. We couldn’t help admiring his talent.
8. We object to his taking part in the investigation.
9. The convict insisted on his lawyer’s appealing against the se-
verity of the sentence.
10. She was accused of attempting to prevent the course of 
justice.
11. They are accused of holding up (

and stealing $45,000.
12. If you put your money into that business, you risk losing 
every penny.
13. I don’t feel like working; what about having a ten minutes’
